Siena Farms' 2016 Emergency Drought Fund
Please consider supporting Siena Farms with a donation, through a secure online payment below, to help us recoup significant losses from this year's season-long drought.
Our farm has experienced its most challenging growing season in our history this year, due primarily to the most prolonged and severe drought ever recorded here in Eastern Massachusetts.
During a normal growing season, we project and expect to lose up to 20% of our planted crops due to normal environmental factors beyond our control, namely pests, crop disease, and weather. This year our crop losses, though still unfolding, are projected at roughly 50%.
Over time, and as quickly as possible, we need to strengthen our business model to prepare for seasons this difficult, and perhaps even more difficult. As we work toward that goal however, we need to ask help from our customers and friends to shoulder a portion of this year's crop losses with us through an outright donation, as we do not currently have the financial reserves to shoulder them alone. Your donation to Siena Farms will not be tax-deductible, as we are a for-profit business. But it will be humbly and gratefully received, and promptly used to take care of accounts payable from the current season that have built to an unsustainable level due to the duration and magnitude of crop loss and the corresponding loss of income for the farm. If successful, our Emergency Drought Fund will enable us to continue farming next season without requiring liquidation of core assets, such as farmland and equipment.
It's never fun to ask for help, or to need it in the first place. Please call the farm to speak with Farmer Chris directly if you have any questions about the Drought Fund or the challenges facing the farm right now. Meantime, thank you for reading this far, and thank you for considering helping Siena Farms out of the most serious ecological and financial challenge we've faced to date.
Donations of any denomination to our 2016 Emergency Drought Fund may also be made in person at one of our retail locations, over the phone by calling the farm, or with a check made out to Siena Farms, LLC, and mailed to:
